OPENSustainability at School - the movie

REcentre presents to you: 'sustainability at school' - the movie featuring Luigi Ferrara from Institute without Boundaries, Natascha Rommens from REcentre, some teachers and students and many more.

This movie reviews the exhibition of sustainable design school projects around three themes (water, local 80 km and multifunctionality). 'Sustainability at School' is the fruit of a collaboration between REcentre, some sustainable design specialists and 5 design schools out of the Euregion Meuse-Rhin.

OPENdrinKraantjeswater

src=plaatje.php?id=42&ext=_kleinDrinking tap water instead of bottled water: it's healthier, cheaper and wiser. Consuming tap water = sustainable profit for you and the environment. Together with it's designers, REcentre is supporting the drinKraantjeswater campaign.

Read more about the campaign and the carafe. There was an online poll on www.drinkraantjeswater.be to vote for your favourite carafe. The winning carafe was presented to you on the 14th of July 2010 and will be in the shops in Limburg in December 2010.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Thanks for all the people for voting on the carafes! Two beautiful, original, practical and sustainable designs came out of it, but there can be only one winner. It's Hegge ID. Big Up for them!

OPENTrendspotting - VPRO

Trendspotting (a VPRO television show) went to the Salone Internazionale del Mobile 2010 in Milan to discover true sustainable products on the prestigious fair. Time to rethink design! How many design does a human being need? How can designers make consumers aware of the usefulness of their purchases? Are we waiting for the Xth new chair?

Check out the movie on the VPRO website (you might have to download the program 'Silverlight' to see the movie, it's on their site)

OPENlab'eau drinKraantjeswater

/The first lab'eau took place on the 7th of April at Z33 in Hasselt. The six designers who compete for the sustainable water carafe for the drinKraantjeswater campaign were invited to follow a workshop. In the morning they got to know where our water comes from, what it contains, how it gets drinkable, the battle between bottle and tap,... That part was taken care of by Paula Thoelen from VMW, Olivier Sauwens from BBL and Veerle Verbakel from REcentre. In the afternoon we invited several experts in the fields of communication, materials, sustainability, architecture, filosophy,...to brainstorm together with the designers about the sustainable water carafe or other water carriers and about the best way how to get the message of 'drinking tap water instead of bottled water' across to the consumers by design. This workshop was led by Thomas Lommée from Open Structures.

Pictures and result of the workshop can be found soon on our activities page.
